LEARN HOW TO DESIGN A PLANT AND SELECT A TECHNOLOGY FOR BIODIESEL PRODUCTION AT THE 6th AOCS BIODIESEL SHORT COURSE APRIL 2007
The 6th Biodiesel Short Course will take place Tuesday, April 10, 2007 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Due to high petroleum prices, many government agencies around the world are looking at alternative technologies, methods, and hybrid processing techniques. The most promising approach is the use of renewable energy, such as biodiesel from vegetable oils (soybean, rapeseed, palm etc.), beef and pork tallow, waste restaurant frying grease (yellow grease), and by-products from other processes involving soybean oil.
This one-day short course is organized jointly by AOCS and the National Soybean Research Center from Brazilian Corporation for Agricultural Research (EMBRAPA).
Fifteen experts from industry and academia will cover ● Oils and Fats Chemistry ● Oilseed Crushing and Oil Separation ● Purification of Biodiesel ● Liquid/Liquid Centrifugation for Biodiesel Applications ● Biodiesel in Brazil ● Pre-Treatment Process for Fats and Oils Prior to Transesterification ● Transesterification Process: Chemistry and Technology for Production of Biodiesel ● Basics of Diesel Engines ● Fuel Properties and Analysis ● Glycerol Production and Utilization ● Biodiesel Plant Design: Planning, Site Selection, and Important Critical Parameters; ● Biodiesel Production: Case Studies and Technologies; ● Stabilizers for Biodiesel; ● Towards Sustainable Biofuels; ● Glycerol Production and Utilization
The presentations will be given by Industry and Academy experts from ● Harburg-Freudenberger Maschinenbau GmbH ● Dallas Group ● CINC ● Westfalia Separator ● Food Tech GmbH ● Crown Iron Works Inc. ● De Smet-Ballestra Oleo. ● Lurgi Aktiengesellschaft ● Filtration and Membrane World LLC ● Unilever ● Brazilian Ministry of Mines and Energy ● University of Brasilia ● Federal University of Paraná ● Federal University of Rio de Janeiro
Participants will learn about:
- Individual unit operations involved in biodiesel production
- Biodiesel market trends and regulations in the U.S., Europe and Brazil
- Basics of diesel engines
- Fuel properties and analysis
- Biodiesel plant design
Registered attendees will have the opportunity to network with other industry professionals at the networking luncheons on both days.
The program is targeted for both experienced and entry level staff including entrepreneurs, marketing staff, plant operators, engineers, chemists, technicians, and anyone who would like to get into this business.
